Hong Kong (China), 28 de octubre de 2025. – En el marco de su visita oficial a la Región Administrativa Especial de Hong Kong, el Embajador de Colombia en la República Popular China, Sergio Fausto Cabrera Cárdenas, sostuvo una reunión estratégica con el Jefe Ejecutivo, Sr. John Lee Ka-chiu, acompañado de Luis Fernando Orozco Barrera, Cónsul general de Colombia, orientada a fortalecer la relación bilateral y abrir nuevas oportunidades en comercio, inversión y cooperación académica.
Entre los temas destacados se encuentran:
- Negociación de un Acuerdo de Servicios Aéreos, que facilitará la conectividad y el transporte de mercancías.
- Propuesta de Hong Kong para avanzar en acuerdos clave: Evitar la Doble Tributación y Promoción y Protección de Inversiones, fundamentales para atraer capital y reducir riesgos fiscales.
- Impulso a la cooperación académica, en el marco del ingreso de Colombia a la Iniciativa de la Franja y la Ruta.
Actualmente, Colombia es el sexto socio comercial de Hong Kong en Latinoamérica. El comercio bilateral creció a una tasa anual promedio del 9,2 % en los últimos cinco años, alcanzando 688 millones de dólares en 2024. Las exportaciones colombianas incluyen piedras preciosas y metales, frutas, productos farmacéuticos y carne bovina y porcina, sectores con alto potencial de expansión.
El Jefe Ejecutivo John Lee subrayó: «Esta visita marca el inicio de un nuevo capítulo en la relación bilateral con Colombia», destacando que, de concretarse las propuestas, «podrán abrirse muchas puertas y ventanas de oportunidades».
Estas iniciativas refuerzan la estrategia de internacionalización de Colombia y consolidan a Hong Kong como un socio clave en Asia para comercio, inversión y conectividad.

- Academic cooperation opportunities, following Colombia’s recent accession to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Hong Kong and Colombia maintain a strong trade relationship, with Colombia ranking as Hong Kong’s sixth-largest trading partner in Latin America. Over the past five years, bilateral trade has grown at an average annual rate of 9.2%, reaching USD 688 million in 2024. Colombian exports to Hong Kong primarily include precious stones and metals such as gold, alongside fruits, pharmaceuticals, and beef and pork products—sectors that have shown recent growth.
Chief Executive John Lee emphasized the significance of this engagement, stating: “This visit marks the beginning of a new chapter in our bilateral relationship with Colombia,” and noted that if the proposed initiatives move forward, “many doors and windows of opportunity will open with Colombia.”
