Hong Kong, 11 de junio de 2026. El Consulado General de Colombia en Hong Kong acompañó este encuentro organizado por Invest Hong Kong, con la participación de Alpha Lau, directora general de InvestHK, Algernon Yau, secretario (ministro) de Comercio y Desarrollo Económico, empresarios colombianos de distintos sectores presentes en la ciudad, así como representantes institucionales y regionales desde Colombia.
El Consulado General de Colombia en Hong Kong participó en el LATAM–China Business Connect 2026, organizado por Invest Hong Kong el 10 de junio de 2026, un encuentro concebido para celebrar la relación de largo plazo entre Hong Kong y América Latina, fortalecer la articulación de la comunidad empresarial latinoamericana y promover nuevas oportunidades de cooperación entre América Latina, Hong Kong y China continental. La iniciativa se enmarca en la visión de InvestHK de consolidar a Hong Kong como una plataforma internacional de negocios en Asia y como punto de apoyo para la expansión global de las empresas del continente.
La recepción contó con la participación de Ms. Alpha Lau, directora general de Invest Hong Kong, quien tuvo a su cargo la apertura. Alpha Lau ejerce ese cargo desde noviembre de 2023, y InvestHK es la agencia oficial del Gobierno de Hong Kong encargada de atraer y facilitar la inversión, así como de apoyar a las empresas que establecen o expanden sus operaciones en la ciudad. El evento también contó con la participación de Mr. Algernon Yau, Secretario para el Comercio y el Desarrollo Económico del Gobierno de Hong Kong, cuya cartera abarca el comercio, la inversión, las telecomunicaciones y la radiodifusión, así como los temas de propiedad intelectual y de protección al consumidor.
La participación de Colombia en este espacio tuvo especial relevancia porque permitió acompañar una plataforma de relacionamiento de alto nivel con representantes del cuerpo consular latinoamericano, cámaras empresariales, líderes comunitarios y actores interesados en las dinámicas entre América Latina, Hong Kong y China continental.
Durante la jornada, el Consulado destacó la presencia de empresarios colombianos de diversos sectores en la ciudad, así como la participación desde Colombia de Invest Nariño, representada por Diana de los Ríos, directora general, y de la Cámara de Comercio del Huila, representada por Víctor Rubiano, director de Competitividad, lo cual aportó una valiosa dimensión territorial y regional al diálogo empresarial.
De acuerdo con cifras del DANE y de ProColombia, las exportaciones colombianas registradas hacia Hong Kong pasaron de US$153,9 millones en 2022 a US$290,2 millones en 2023, alcanzaron US$406,3 millones en 2024 y, en el corte de enero–marzo de 2026, registraron US$27,45 millones. Estas cifras muestran que la relación comercial entre Colombia y Hong Kong conserva una base no minera relativamente estable y, dentro de ella, señales cada vez más claras de sofisticación y diversificación.
Aunque el componente minero‑energético sigue explicando la mayor parte del valor exportado, la evolución de la canasta no minera —en particular en agroalimentos y en otros nichos de mayor valor agregado— sugiere que existe espacio real para ampliar la presencia de productos, negocios y empresarios colombianos en la Región Administrativa Especial de Hong Kong. Ese potencial adquiere especial relevancia en un entorno que sigue ofreciendo condiciones particularmente favorables para los negocios, por lo que Hong Kong se proyecta no solo como un centro financiero y logístico internacional, sino también como una plataforma estratégica desde la cual las empresas colombianas pueden fortalecer su presencia en Asia, especialmente cuando cuentan con una oferta de calidad, diferenciada y con vocación premium.

Celebramos la presencia activa de empresarios colombianos en la ciudad y continuaremos promoviendo espacios que favorezcan nuevas conexiones, alianzas y oportunidades de negocio para Colombia”, señaló Luis Fernando Orozco Barrera, Cónsul General de Colombia en Hong Kong.
El Consulado General de Colombia en Hong Kong valora especialmente la invitación de Invest Hong Kong y reitera su disposición a seguir trabajando con las autoridades locales, la comunidad diplomática latinoamericana, el sector privado y los actores regionales colombianos para fortalecer los vínculos empresariales y seguir posicionando a Colombia como un socio confiable, dinámico y diversificado para Hong Kong, China continental y la región de Asia‑Pacífico.

COLOMBIA TAKES PART IN THE LATAM–CHINA BUSINESS CONNECT EVENT 2026 AND REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO STRONGER BUSINESS TIES WITH HONG KONG AND MAINLAND CHINA

The Consulate General of Colombia in Hong Kong joined this Invest Hong Kong event together with Alpha Lau, Director-General of InvestHK, Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Colombian entrepreneurs from different sectors present in the city, as well as institutional and regional representatives joining from Colombia.
The Consulate General of Colombia in Hong Kong took part in the LATAM–China Business Connect 2026 event, organized by Invest Hong Kong on 10 June 2026, a gathering designed to celebrate the long-standing partnership between Hong Kong and Latin America, strengthen connections within the Latin American business community, and promote new opportunities for cooperation between Latin America, Hong Kong and Mainland China. The initiative aligns with InvestHK’s broader goal of reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as an international business platform in Asia and a springboard for global expansion.
The reception featured Ms Alpha Lau, Director-General of Invest Hong Kong, who delivered the welcome remarks. Alpha Lau has held that position since November 2023, and InvestHK is the Hong Kong Government’s official investment promotion agency, dedicated to attracting and facilitating investment and supporting companies that establish or expand in the city. The event also included the participation of Mr Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of Hong Kong, whose portfolio covers trade, investment, telecommunications and broadcasting, as well as intellectual property and consumer protection matters.
Colombia’s participation in this gathering was especially significant because it provided an opportunity to engage with a high-level platform that brought together members of the Latin American consular corps, chambers of commerce, community leaders, and stakeholders interested in the growing links between Latin America, Hong Kong, and Mainland China.
During the evening, the Consulate highlighted the presence of Colombian entrepreneurs from different sectors present in the city, as well as the participation from Colombia of Invest Nariño, represented by Diana de los Ríos, Executive Director, and the Huila Chamber of Commerce, represented by Víctor Rubiano, Director for Competitiveness, adding a valuable regional and territorial dimension to the business dialogue.
According to figures from DANE and ProColombia, recorded Colombian exports to Hong Kong increased from US$153.9 million in 2022 to US$290.2 million in 2023, reached US$406.3 million in 2024, and stood at US$27.45 million in the January–March 2026 quarter. These figures suggest that the trade relationship between Colombia and Hong Kong continues to rest on a relatively stable non-mining base and, within that base, increasingly visible signs of sophistication and diversification.
While the mining and energy-related component still accounts for the largest share of export value, the evolution of the non-mining basket — particularly in agri-food products and other higher-value-added niches — points to real room for expanding the presence of Colombian products, businesses and entrepreneurs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. In this context, Hong Kong stands not only as an international financial and logistics hub but also as a strategic platform from which Colombian companies can strengthen and scale their presence in Asia, especially when they offer products and services that combine quality, differentiation, and premium value.

The Consulate General of Colombia in Hong Kong especially values the invitation extended by Invest Hong Kong and reiterates its willingness to continue working with local authorities, the Latin American diplomatic community, the private sector and regional actors from Colombia in order to strengthen business ties and further position Colombia as a reliable, dynamic and diversified partner for Hong Kong, Mainland China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
